Discover the Beauty of Sanskrit with Our Beginner's Course | HUA

The Learn Sanskrit: Certificate Program for Beginners is designed for students of all ages, including those in the 9th grade, who are interested in learning Sanskrit. It is the first part of a three-phase Certificate Program in Sanskrit Proficiency, with Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. The course is taught in English, and no prior knowledge of the Sanskrit script or language is required, making it accessible to people worldwide.

The
Learn Sanskrit program comprises four 1.5-credit-hour quarters, spanning a year, with a total of 120 hours of self-study and 60 hours of instruction. The four courses cover the Sanskrit script and sounds, vocabulary, sentences and comprehension, proverbs and stories.

The course aims to help beginners become comfortable with the language and enable them to progress to higher-level courses. Students will learn the sounds of Sanskrit, how to write and pronounce single vowels and consonants, and how to use them to make words. They will also read and write simple passages in Devanagari, learn basic words, and understand grammatical concepts like purusha, vacana, and linga. The program includes simple exercises to help students develop the skills needed to study Sanskrit further.

The curriculum and textbooks used in the program are created by Samskrita Bharati USA (SBusa.org), with course content based on the SBusa books "Ayanam," "SaariNee," "Prapadya," and "Supada." Upon completion of the four-quarter program, students can move on to the intermediate phase of the Certificate Program in Sanskrit Proficiency, which lasts for another four quarters or 44 weeks. The program is taught by dedicated HUA faculty members through an online platform using live virtual classrooms as a learning model.
