Motherhood Yoga Course: Reclaiming Spiritual Powers | HUA

The Yoga of Motherhood Course is an opportunity for mothers to explore the yogic tradition and reclaim the spiritual powers of motherhood, known as siddhis, to foster a culture of care and community. Through this course, mothers will develop a deeper understanding of their internal processes and innate abilities to heal themselves and their children.

The course focuses on the yogic concept of motherhood from a liberatory perspective, the 5 koshas, with particular emphasis on the pranamaya kosha, the sheath of lifeforce, and the vital realm, as envisioned by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. In addition, the course will explore the relationship between historical traumas and disease and how mothers can build communities of care.

The course has several learning objectives, including helping students:

a) Understand yogic concepts of motherhood from a liberatory perspective. b) Learn about the 5 koshas, specifically the pranamaya kosha, and its influence on health and vitality. c) Develop a deeper understanding of how traumas, karmas, ancestors, outside influences, and our own emotional turmoil impact our lives and the lives of our children through the vital realm as conceived by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. d) Expand consciousness as mothers to empower themselves to be present for their own emotional, mental, and physical realities, as well as those of their children. Students will engage in simple yogic techniques to cultivate their own innate abilities and siddhis. e) Recognize the fundamental connection between historical traumas and disease. f) Strengthen confidence, inner vitality, and health as mothers and foster communities of care.

The course is designed to be interactive and engaging, with a minimum of 1.5 contact hours with one or more faculty members each week. The course structure encourages discussion based on self-study and reflection each week.

Students will receive course materials that they will need to review before attending the weekly class, including readings, videos, and other resources to deepen their understanding of the course topics. During the weekly class, students will have the opportunity to engage in discussions and ask questions about the materials.

The course will be conducted in a safe and inclusive space that promotes sharing and discovery. Students will be encouraged to share their experiences and perspectives on the course topics and engage in discussions with their classmates.
