Refine Your Sanskrit Pronunciation with our Intermediate Course | HUA

 In this second course of the Learn Sanskrit Proficiency Certificate Program, students will continue their journey to become proficient in Sanskrit by focusing on the following areas: 

  1. Devanagari script study and use, sound origin, and Sanskrit pronunciation: 

Students will learn how to read and write in Devanagari script, the origin of Sanskrit sounds, and proper pronunciation to improve their language skills. 



  1. Simple greetings and introductions: 

Students will learn how to introduce themselves and greet others in Sanskrit using the appropriate expressions. 

  1. Pronouns, Persons, Numbers, and Gender: 

This course will cover the use of pronouns, persons, numbers, and gender in Sanskrit, including sarvanAmapadAni, puruShAH, vachanAni, and lingAH. 

  1. Indeclinables: 

Students will learn about indeclinables, or avyayAni, which are words that do not change their form to indicate grammatical features such as gender, number, or case. 

  1. Simple Conversations: 

Through simple conversations, students will practice constructing basic sentences and gain confidence in using the language in everyday situations. 

  1. Sanskrit Numerals: 

Students will learn Sanskrit numerals from 1 to 100, which are essential for basic communication in Sanskrit. 

  1. Frequently Used Verbs: 

This course will cover frequently used verbs in Sanskrit, enabling students to communicate effectively in different contexts. 

  1. Interrogative Words: 

Students will learn words with interrogative potential, such as who, what, where, when, why, and how, to ask questions and seek information. 

  1. Simple Present and Past Tense Introduction: 

Students will be introduced to the simple present and past tenses, which are the building blocks of sentences in Sanskrit. 

  1. Sambodhanam or Direct Address: 

Students will learn Sanskrit use of sambodhanam, or direct address, to show respect and courtesy in communication. 

  1. Adding New Words to Vocabulary: 

Throughout the course, students will continue to expand their vocabulary by adding new nouns, pronouns, and verbs to their repertoire.

By the end of this course, students will have achieved the following learning objectives: 

  • Describe the basic sounds that make up Sanskrit pronunciation and use them correctly. 

  • Recognize and use frequently used Sanskrit expressions. 

  • Learn the fundamentals of the language through natural conversation. 

  • Recognize and employ fundamental building blocks such as numbers, tenses, simple verbs, and other speech acts effectively in their speech and writing. 

  • Develop the confidence to communicate in Sanskrit in a variety of contexts.
